  The search area

On November 10, 2013, Mikel Scott Schepke, age 47, went for a walk along Birchwood Drive — which is situated just south of P. H. Hoeft State Park, and just north of the Herman Vogler Conservation Area — in Presque Isle County's Rogers Township, just north of Rogers City, Michigan.

Unfortunately, Mikel never returned home, and no trace of him was ever found.

Led by the Presque Isle County Sheriff's Department in Rogers City, Michigan, and organized by Alpena County Search and Rescue (ACSAR), community volunteers and search teams from across the state combed the area around Mikel's residence for any sign of him:

  • Presque Isle County Sheriff's Department
  • Presque Isle County Sheriff's Department K-9
  • Alpena County Search and Rescue (K-9)
  • Michigan State Police K-9

  • Rogers City Police Department
  • Various county and township fire departments
  • Community volunteers
  • Salvation Army (food and refreshments)
  • Rogers City Senior Center (food and refreshments)

According to his family, Mikel was severely intellectually challenged due to near-fatal brain injuries he sustained as a 10-year-old, when he and his mother were brutally attacked — viciously beaten, repeatedly stabbed, and left for dead — by two, knife-wielding subjects as they robbed his parent's convenience store, the Halfway Station southwest of Rogers City, on November 5, 1976.

If you know of Mikel's whereabouts, or anything about his disappearance, please say something, today!
