Jeff Hurley went missing about 5 miles southeast of Moorestown on November 7, 2017. The vehicle he was traveling in with a companion Alexandria "Alex" Foust (website), who is also missing — was found stuck in the mud along a gas pipeline cutting through Dead Stream Swamp in Missaukee County's Norwich Township.

The 47-square-mile Dead Stream Swamp straddles the county line between Missaukee and Roscommon Counties.

According to Jason Ney and Terri Nichols’ 2009 book entitled America’s Natural Resources — The Midwest, the Swamp is a “30,000-acre bog forest,” and represents “one of the nation’s largest northern white cedar swamps.”

The peat reportedly averages 3 to 7 feet thick, and up to 16 feet in places.

Dead Stream Swamp has also been referred to as Dead-Man's Swamp.

And the swamp is legendary for it's massive black bear.

While several personal items were found in the area around their vehicle, no other trace of Jeff or Alex has been found.

Jeff is listed as an endangered adult.

An extensive, multi-day search of the area around Jeff Hurley's vehicle by Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers and detectives, Missaukee County Sheriff's Department personnel, Michigan Department of Natural Resources officers, numerous MSP K-9 teams, a helicopter from the MSP Aviation Unit, an independent K-9 team, a Traverse City-area SAR team, Michigan National Guard members, family members, and concerned community volunteers failed to locate him or Alex.

If you know anything about Jeff Hurley's whereabouts, or the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, please report it to the authorities.
