MibSAR in the News: Detroit Free Press (Detroit, Michigan)
Thank you very much. It's an amazing website [Adam Gray website].
Thank you for doing this [Adam Gray website]! It’s incredible!
Thank you, Michael Neiger, for all your work on Rose's website. It's amazing what you do for missing people and their families! I can't thank you enough for all of your hard work!
You are truly a gift to the families you are helping.
Thank you and your team for all your efforts, Michael! I know someday he [Joe Clewley] will be found in that vast wilderness. Until then I find comfort knowing he is at rest among the beautiful forests, lakes and streams that he loved so much. Your search operations have helped to keep us connected to that hope and they are appreciated more than you could ever know.
Thank you so much. I appreciate you and your team's efforts more than you know.
Thanks for what you do.
I love the fact you never ever give up on the missing Mike.
MibSAR in the News: The ‘Northern Divide,’ a film directed by Chris Ozminski documenting one of MibSAR’s annual Long Range Special Operations Group (LRSOG) arctic cold-weather training expeditions — The 2014 9-day Oba River Expedition — will premiere at the Fresh Coast Film Festival in Marquette, Michigan on October 19-22, 2017.
It isn't very often that there's a quick and happy resolution to a missing person case. It's good we have Michael Neiger and Team MibSAR!
MibSAR in the News: MibSAR just wrapped up two days of interviews and filming with investigative reporter Ana Garcia and her film, sound, lighting, and makeup crew that was documenting Chief Laura Frizzo’s successful investigation of the 2014 murder and dismemberment of Chris Regan in Michigan‘s Iron County. Before the case was over this spring, one of Chris’ serial killers was murdered to silence him, and the other was convicted of first-degree murder and dismemberment. The one-hour special — to be produced by Emmy Award Winning Jen Antonelli, a Burbank, California senior producer with Warner Bros.’ Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen — is scheduled to air this fall. The case was a textbook example of collaboration between an NGO like MibSAR and Iron River PD, Hobart Indiana PD, MSP, FBI, US Marshals, DNR, Iron Co Deputies, K-9 One SAR, & a host of other agencies.
Glad you all are getting much deserved coverage!...Your support [for the book, 'Cold: From the Inside', detailing the murder and dismemberment of Chris Regan] has been incredible. Thank you.
I just wanted to let you know that I found my son this evening. He is safe now and will hopefully get the help he needs. I cannot express how much I appreciate all you have done for me. You gave me hope when I felt completely hopeless. If your travels ever lead you to ... and I can be of any help, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I would love to return the favor if ever possible. Thank you again
for all you have done for me.
Thanks for all the work you do.
Mike your group are so wonderful, And do wonderful things for so maybe Families as well as Law Enforcement Departments, Thanks For all your Team's hard work and Dedication.
Hi Michael, I just wanted to thank you on behalf of my family for helping to look for Kara [Moore]. It was amazing how many people were ready to help and your knowing the land and working to bring the dogs up was such a comfort.
MibSAR in the News: Moore Case
I think it's just awesome the way you and others are doing what you can to help the families find their loved ones.
Thank you Michael Neiger, I'm glad you're out there [Moore case].
Thanks for all that do [Moore case]. It's important.
Thank you for keeping this investigation on going [Granroth case]!
MibSAR in the News: Granroth case
Thank you Mike! May time spent on this [Granroth case] soon turn to a much needed closure. ...praying for some loose lips to disclose the necessary information into the ears of someone who will report.
Thank you Mike for working so hard on this [Granroth case]. You are amazing.
No one can beat your eye for detail, Michael. Proud to be your sister! Best wishes on your searches.
I pray you get some answers for these families left behind! Thank you for all your efforts!
Great work Michael & your team so now the family may put Andy [Andrew Bray case] to rest with peace in their hearts now knowing. Praying for his family.
I will be forever thankful for you and your way of looking for the little things. It was still a very necessary part to give enough of a picture to create that line for the K9 to go [and find James Hepworth]
Good work Michael!
I'm so glad you all were able to find him [Andy Bray] and put him to rest. So sorry for the family. God bless you all for the work you do.
Thank you and keep up your amazing work.
Thanks so much for your time and generosity with photos and advice!
MibSAR in the News: Today I had a chance to speak with the founder and leader of Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue (MibSAR), Michael Neiger [in an interview for the book Cold: From the Inside, detailing the investigation into the 2014 1st-degree murder and dismemberment of Chris Regan in Iron River, Michigan). With 26 years in the Michigan State Police, Michael helped not only in finding evidence (and helped Chief Frizzo know what to look for, which led to finding Chris Regan's remains), but his computer extraction skills provided evidence used to provide proof of premeditation in Regan's murder. Additionally, he has provided photos and documents which will help you, when reading the book, visualize the areas described more completely. His photographs of the search and search areas are fantastic and will virtually put you in the middle of the investigation.
It sure was a day for Daniel! Hard to believe it was 2 years ago that you Michael Neiger and your team found him. Let's all light a candle tonight in memory of Daniel and in recognition for you and your awesome team! We extend our gratitude to all of the MibSAR team (Michael, Chris, Todd, Cathy, Charles and Dave) as you continue to search for so many other missing loved ones.
MibSAR is an amazing organization based in Marquette. Michael & his crew do amazing work in Michigan and beyond, and helped to locate Chris Regan's remains, as well as assisted in computer forensics.
Thanks Michael Neiger and Laura Frizzo for participating in this [WJMN] special report. Your hard work on this case helped bring justice to the family of Chris Regan, Sr.
Michael Neiger you are an angel.
So great!! Family [Daniel Trask] has closure and rest with knowledge that their loved one is finally at peace. Great job Mike!
So glad this family [Daniel Trask] was able to get the closure they needed after three very long years. Thank you for all your hard work in helping bring the lost home.
I appreciate what you do for the closure for the families of the missing.
Michael Neiger & your team are very determined to find results. It took several attempts but with good results in the end you & everyone involved answered so many why's & where. Plus you brought closure to my sis Maureen Trask & Don Daniel Trask is Found. Many, many thanks! to all & stay safe on your journeys.
Congratulations to Michael Neiger who has earned Nasar's top certification for search/rescue! Be sure to read the entire description of this grueling course to better understand his level of achievement. Thank you, Michael, for your dedication to saving lives and searching for the missing! We are grateful for your services.
Thanks so much for your persistence [on the Chris Hallaxs case]; we really do appreciate it.
I admire so much these search groups [MibSAR] that continue on and on to search for our missing loved ones. Cases like this [Oscar Hintta], in the UP especially which is remote and with frigid temperatures, take great skill and determination. Thank you Michael Neiger!
He [Michael Neiger] is so committed and professional. A true blessing to these families and missing loved ones.
Thanks for all your effort.
Go get em Michael!! I'd love to find out what the heck is going on with the missing in the national parks! Good luck on the interview. If anyone can find out what is going on, it's you and your team. Keep us posted!
Thank you so much for all of your help! It's too bad the special is only a half an hour long...
You are going to be very famous for what you do. And much deserved Michael. I've said it since the first time I met you [Regan case]. That's why you were/are a threat to any egomaniac detectives. I am truly so fortunate to have worked in your company and learned so much from you. Thank you.
Nice work in the field, your team has been doing great.
A big thank you, Michael and Catherine, for the volunteer work you do.
So great that you found ... Andy Bray. People say it's a miracle but you always have a well thought out plan which leads to your success [Andrew Bray case]!
Mike's commitment and professional planning and tactics far exceed those of many searchers. Great guy to work with and learn from. Great job on this case [Andy Bray].
Perseverance! You do a great service to that part of the state which is so remote and searches so difficult with the inclement weather and terrain.
I commend your services and all others that assisted. The [Matson] family must be ever grateful for your efforts!
Great Job everyone [Bray case]!!!!!
I can't thank you enough, sincerely from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of the family [for finding Andy Bray]. While it's a difficult time it finally brings some closure and he can finally be laid to rest. Thank you again, for everything.

I hope you can help the [Schepke] family with closure.
It's so enjoyable to see someone do so much good for others!
I recently finished school for becoming a WEMT and received certifications for completion of studies and national registry requirements. While I was there, one of my fellow classmates who works for team rubicon told me about your organization and pointed me towards your website. I gave it a brief glance and was immediately blown away by your discipline, credentials, and attention to detail.
Many thanks for what you do, and for inspiring a new generation of people willing to work in all conditions.
Mikel is my husband's uncle, we definitely need to know where he is .... Thank you so much. It is greatly appreciated.
Thank you Michael for taking on the Schepke case.
I grew up outside of Rogers City and know about this case [Mikel Schepke]. I'll be keeping tabs on your progress. Thanks for everything you do, Michael.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your help Michael Neiger [James Hepworth case]. You are truly a wonderful person! You made a difference in our lives.
A big Thank you, we are mobilising ourselves, mostly South African Police men, Paramedics, Fire Fighters, ex Miltary and privates, as well as Ngos to take Disaster management to a 1st world level, we are a small team, growing day by day, but we no longer can sit back and wait for diaster after disaster , waiting for someone else to do something, Even as I speak there is a fire in the harbour that has darkened the skyies , If we want to enhance our skills, it is very hard to get selected as well as very expensive , so South Africa Search and Rescue has allowed me to do a trial programme to get relevant expertise to teach our fellow brothers how to handle any situation. I have opened a facebook Page to organise this training, you welcome to monitor us and any advice would be greatly appreciated, We need SAR in Africa.
Thanks for ALL of your hard work on behalf of the poor souls still lost.
You do great work Sir......both nations are lucky to have your services!
Great idea!! And thank you MibSAR for offering this free service for those of us who advocate for our missing loved ones!!
What a great service you are providing for the missing by providing place mats pro bono! You have a big heart!
You should be proud, Mike. I won't lie, it was a hard read and conjured up a lot of memories; but it is good, if for no other reason, then for others to understand how difficult it is for family and volunteers to marshal resources and strength to keep up search efforts. A truly miraculous thing would be for an angel investor to read this or that more people become involved as volunteers. People as dedicated and selfless as you, are a rare breed. We are so fortunate to have your support [on Joe Clewley search].
Given the remoteness of the [Joseph Clewley search] location, we were very blessed with support from the county and state. We have nothing but gratitude for the search effort, but this article really shows how difficult it is to get and sustain that support in these areas, especially on the dreaded day when rescue turns to recovery. That's when volunteer groups like Michael Neiger's Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue and Michigan Search and Rescue are so critical for the families. We are fortunate. Mike still searches to this day.
If anyone would know about searching in the wilderness, you and your team would know!
I'm astounded and sad by how many new [missing-person] cases there are each year. Makes me even more grateful that you will have the time to revisit the [Joe Clewley] search area. Thank you so very much.
TY, TY! Michael Neiger for this Aundria Bowman filer and web page!
We would like to acknowledge MibSAR and Michael Neiger for the skill and exhaustive efforts brought to the Chris Regan case. Thanks to Chief Frizzo's determination and your many professional contributions to this wide ranging investigation - this case is closed. Job well done Mike ! From your friends at K-9 ONE SAR.

Wow, thank you for continuing a search for my cousin.
So good to hear you are still here although you are so great in the woods so it is no surprise! Thanks for being you.
Giving these talented people and animals comfortable lodging is the least the [Granroth] family could do.
You and your team spend endless hours of training, hiking, searching, collecting, and its all done from the heart, of really good people..Just know we are so lucky to have your team and you for the missing....
Thank you for not giving up!! He's out there somewhere, we know that.

Such an amazing team! Michael and his team found partial remains of my son, Daniel Trask is Found in May 24, 2015. Without their professional searching skills and expertise, we believe Daniel could not be found by us. Michael Neiger is very humble. One year ago today, you guys (Michael, Todd, Chris) found remains after less than one day out searching. Thanks for watching over Daniel that night and for the respectful prayer vigil (Sun. May 24, 2015 at 9:13PM). We are so grateful. (heart emoticon) We just lit a candle and are watching the video "Requiem for Daniel", which is so special and thoughtful of you and your team. You never gave up on Daniel and kept our hope alive.
Michael - Just wanted to compliment you on your resourcefulness, tireless and endless dedication to all the missing person cases you are working. You have been a wonderfully encouraging and inspirational resource for families and the agencies that lament these missing souls. However bittersweet - it's good to see Joseph has been found and returned to his family. And it's gratifying to see the arrest made in Chris' case. I expect - hope - believe it won't be long now before he is found. Thank you allowing us to work along with you in your mission for the missing.
Great job! See what can be accomplished when there is no such word as jurisdiction and everyone works together!
Great collaboration and teamwork MibSAR!
Great job everybody!!
Great job finding answers for this family.

I am amazed at the work you guys and women do.
Michael, I want to just send a simple thank you today, this day which marks 43 years since Kathy disappeared from our lives. Your recent gifts are deeply appreciated.
Lending tremendous support on July 4 was Michael Neiger TeamMibsar who spent a chunk of his holiday working on and editing the Crime Stoppers flyer to support our efforts to find Kathy. He also gifted her Facebook page a banner which is simply amazing.
He [Michael] sent me several messages providing support, suggestions, and encouragement, as well as offers of future assistance. My heart is overflowing with gratitude.
Hard to put in words the joy and relief you and your team gave us by finding Daniel. Has has connected us for a reason—friendship—this is good! "Thanks" for all you and your team have done for us and others, amazing!
THANK YOU Michael Neiger TeamMibsar. I can't think of a greater gift from above on this 4th of July!!!!! ....My heart is full of gratitude for this gift....Thank you again for this priceless gift.
There was never a doubt in my mind that you would stay with this case [Trask] and succeed. I admire your tenacity and humbleness and am amazed at the skills and abilities you have. Thanks for all you do and God bless your efforts.
You changed our lives by ending our uncertainty and bringing us peace and a new journey of healing.
Hello Michael. Congratulations to you and the MIBSAR Long Range Special Operations Group in the sucessful search for Daniel Trask in Northern Ontario. The persistance and determination your team showed in the this difficult task is a great example to other search teams of what can be done when good people work together to help families bring their loved ones home.
So many holding on and still searching. Bless you for all you do to help!
I just saw the poster for Leah [Harding]. Thank you so much for helping them.
There is no words to express my gratitude to people like you. It is so selfless of each one of you to take the time out of your busy schedules and time away from your families to help the family of the missing. I greatly appreciate you and I hope you know that : )
How could I not like [Team MibSAR's Facebook Page], you brought my baby home!...It's powerful [the statement 'you brought my baby home!'], just like you and your team, true!
We appreciate the work of Michael Neiger TeamMibsar in creating and maintaining this site for Eric and our family!
Wanted to congratulate you and your team on finding Daniel Trask. You have certainly brought much relief to his friends and family.

Maureen Trask Awesome find! MibSAR aka "Mission Impossible" Team. Great pics too!
Finding Daniel would not have been possible without the dedication and professional skills of the MibSAR team. Our family extends our sincere gratitude to each on every member of this team!
For Michael and all of team MibSAR, my heartfelt thanks to all of you. While we have never met, I feel I know you a little bit through Maureen and Donny who have been friends for many years. There was little I could do to help them over these last few years. I am so thankful that there are people like you in our world to step in and be there for them. May God bless you and keep you safe on all of your searches.
You guys done an amazing job, you guys are amazing, thank you for everything you do!!!
Job well done....I am so proud of your team and the work you do...
Our sincere thanks for their tireless and professional search efforts. Without their dedication, we could not have found Daniel.
Thank you for all your expertise dedication and perseverance ! You have been so helpful in bringing peace to the Trask family!
This team is amazing. Bittersweet tears when I read this story. So grateful for them. Soooo many volunteer hours spent looking for my father in law. Thanks for what you do.
So wonderful that you "FOUND" Daniel, ending our journey of uncertainty!
Daniel is no longer missing, thanks to the efforts of the Michigan Backcountry SAR team, bittersweet, but brings us a huge sense of relief and peace. "Thanks" to the amazing MibSAR team who also helped in additional searching with the OPP, so much professional help by all. We are blessed and very grateful.
Thanks for all your efforts for the Trask family Michael.
Outstanding work Michael...kudos to team MibSAR!
Congratulations on all your hard work on finding Daniel Trask ...I know the Bittersweet emotions his family feels ..may he rest peacefully now.
Well done Michael Neiger TeamMibsar and your amazing team at Michigan Backcountry SAR you brought him home and closure for the family.
Michael, you people are absolute heroes! God Bless you! The Trask tragedy is something I think about every time I go to that lake to fish 2 or 3 weeks a year. My 2 brothers and I did the 2.4 Kilo portage walk from the south branch LE river to diamond on May 15 which included some bushwhacking as our little tribute to Daniel but to know avail. I was just sharing with my office what absolute heroes you people are. Thank you so much.
Thank you for everything you do for the families of missing persons.
Thank you so much for the advice and information about the SAR team....My best to you in your searches and people like you are certainly appreciated by those of us who have missing loved ones.
Mike you and your organization are a blessing to the families of the missing. You are never alone in this tragedy, it Makes a Difference. I know my father has been missing since June 2008. Team Mibsar doesn't forget!
MibSAR are such an amazingly skilled and professional team, we couldn't search without their generous assistance.
Along with my family, I cannot express our gratitude to [Michael Neiger] and his team for agreeing to come here and search for Kyle and to hopefully get some closure. There are no words to express what this means to us and we will be forever grateful for any answers you may find.
I thank God for people like yourself that volunteer their time to help people like me locate their missing loved ones. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
The Spec Ops [Blog] is great page and its got some great info....thanks for all the interesting stuff on SAR.
Thank you a million times to the hardest working, most passionate person [Michael Neiger, MibSAR's Lead Investigator] I've had the pleasure to meet. Self-giving. No personal gain. Truly an angel among us.
We are so grateful to Michael and his team members for their unwavering commitment to find Daniel. They are truly amazing!
Wow. Thanks for the UTM Coordinate System primer. It is by far the best source online, and far surpasses many discussions I have encountered in "map & compass" and "outdoor navigation" books....thanks for all the hard work on this extremely, well written and lucid presentation.
This was excellent and I learned a lot from your pedagogical exposition of UTM system.
"Thanks" for all you and your team are doing for our family, greatly appreciated, couldn't do it without MibSAR team!
Hats off to MiBSAR! Thats Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue! They were out again combing the backwoods looking for signs of my father [Joe Clewley]. If he is to be found it will be someone like them going to the areas noone else is willing to venture. Thanks Again!
I love to read about your experiences! You write beautifully! I have enjoyed reading your articles. It is well written. It looks like you spend a large amount of time and effort in writing the blog. I am appreciating your effort.
I have read your Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue: The LAT/LON geographic coordinate system found on-line. It was very useful and informative!
We are so lucky to have great people like all of the MiBSAR volunteers out there continuing the search for Dad [Joe Clewley]. Thank You to each of you. I just know that one day you guys will find him, in his final resting place.
I just came across your written article [on the UTM Coordinate System] and just wanted to thank you for writing up the article, very very informative and well written....awesome article, probably one of the best I've come across.
I loved your site [UTM page] and learned a lot. It's useful and easy to understand. Congrats! Thanks!
Super job on finding Dan Trask's backpack in Temagami! I have tons of respect for what you guys did out there. I hope you can finish—I think you are close...
We are extremely grateful to Michael and his search team for all their time and effort. This year's searching would not have been possible or executed as professionally without your assistance.
Hello, I've just noticed that you have assisted in the Daniel Trask missing persons case and would like to say thank you for the great work you do for these families...Thank you again for the wonderful work you do.
Thank you, again, Michael Neiger for many hours of work on marvelous maps!!! [50-km racecourse map; 50-mi racecourse map]
Thanks for what you do! I can not imagine braving the cold and wilderness.
I never had the chance to thank you for all of the hard work done for our family, Derrick is my big brother and I miss him every day! Hope we can get the answers we need one day. Again thank you very much.
THANK YOU, again, Michael! The [Marquette Trail 50
km] map is SPECTACULAR! Again, I'm a map geek, so to have this quality
of a map for our race is truly something special!
Mike, it is nice to hear that he [Joe
Clewley] has not been forgotten, thank you for all of your efforts.
I found your excellent nav
page while searching for compass info.
it is excellent info all

Wow--Nice job on the maps [Noquemanon
Ski Marathon]!...Again thank you for putting in the time on those
maps, they are great! Anyway, thanks for what you do. Would love to be
part of it some day, love the backcountry and solitude.
Thank you again for your service to the community
and missing person[s].
Mr. Neiger, it's I who am in reverence of what you
do in the field of tracking.
What a great concept MIBSAR is. We could use an outfit
like this in AZ. Great post by the way. Really like your references. David
Scott Donelan and David Diaz are great teachers of the trade.
Have been to your site Michael and it looks pretty
interesting....I wish there were a thousand more like you and maybe we
could make a difference out there.
I found your site very informative, THANKS.
Michael, we (the Ore To Shore Mountain Bike Epic board)
are very pleased and can't thank you enough for all the work you have
done with this (designing racecourse maps for the 48-mile
The photos, notes, and drawings
you compiled in documenting the logging-era wagon [discovered by Team
MiBSAR] in Tahquamenon Falls State Park were forwarded to me....
I really admire your web page!....
Thank you so much for your [Web] site because it is
filled with great information.
These maps are super, thank you so much.
WOW! What a great trip. Thanks Michael and the rest
of the team!
Merry Christmas and God Bless, I thank you for your
I appreciate your time and effort you have exerted
to find my Dad. I hope one day a clue arises and we will have an idea
of what happened to him. Have a happy holiday and I wish you well on your
adventures in the upcoming year...
I'm a former employer of Rob [Dusseau]...I still think
of him all the time, thanks for putting up that web page for him...I hope
the dude is caught.
Greetings from Durant, Oklahoma!
Congrats on solving the Isle Royale case. You have
a persistence and patience that amazes me. If you do happen to find out
how he got off the island, definitely post it. It would be cool if it
was something like he made a raft and floated to Canada, but probably
he convinced a private boater to bring him to the mainland or someone
came to get him in a boat.
I have been reading your materials on your site about
keeping warm etc. AWESOME.
You can tell that you are in SAR for all the right
reasons. That is evident from all the work you and your group do trying
to locate missing persons for their families....
I just have to say this [map]
Just wanted to tell you that I reviewed your web page
and that as a hiker, I really appreciate that some one out there cares
enough about others to put in the effort you and your friends have to
try and locate Mr Clewley.
We share your interest in this type of work in our
local SAR group.
Hi, I'm a PhD student and orienteer and I have been
looking into the problem of how much to aim off.
Cool job you have....Thanks
for the good work that you do.
I wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed reading
and applying your land navigation information.
I appreciate your efforts into this case [the Jeremy
Gould investigation] as well as all of the others you work on.
Hi. They found Jeremy this morning....We want to thank
you for all your help and everything that you've done for our family.
Thank you very much.
Thanks. I have been looking for a old home recipe
for bugs my grandparents made it in the Adirondacks and now I will.
I see you have some upcoming searches planned....
Michael: Thank you for all of this invaluable information
(map-and-compass land navigation, UTM coordinate system, map datums, ranger
pacing beads, GPS use, etc.).
I want to thank everyone who is showing support and
concern in my son's case and posting [on the Topix forum], but most of
all I want to THANK the State Police and Det. Shier and the task force
and Mike and all the search teams that have worked on this case.
I'm a member of a volunteer GSAR team in New Brunswick,
Canada. I enjoyed reading the info on your site and sharing the link with
fellow members....Great site....
Mike and the task force working on Derrick's case:
Happy New Year Mike, I hope all is well with you and
your loved ones. Say hello to your fellow MiBSAR companions. I hope this
is a blessed year and your cases are solved one by one until all three
prominent cases are closed....
Mike...We want to wish you the best for the holidays.
Really enjoy your website and wish the best to you in bringing closure
to the families.
Mike....Thank you for being you and keeping me on
the right track. I could not be this far along in this with out your help
and our talks.
Hi Michael. I can't tell you how much I appreciate
all your help and advice. It was really nice talking to you.
Heartfelt thanks for your good work.
Hello, I have seen your website and the work you do
it truly impressive.
Michael....I want to thank you for all your help and
talks we have. You keep me on the right track and keep me doing things
the right way. This family is blessed to have you on our side in this
While doing some research on
search and rescue and land navigation I came across your website, which
is a great resource thanks for sharing it!
Hello. I was in the UP on vacation over the weekend
with my boyfriend.
From the looks of your web site it appears you are
staying quite busy with your SAR operations. I wish you the best of luck
with your endeavors; bringing closure to loved ones is priceless.
My wife and I recently bought a cabin on Lake Superior,
just south of Paradise. I came across the two missing person posters in
a shop in Paradise.
Michael, I want to THANK YOU again for your dedication
and all the time you have put in my sons missing person case.
Dear Family Of Christopher Hallaxs:
Thank you to The Newberry News
in Newberry Michigan, and the editor, Jim Diem, for the story they ran
on my son Derrick on 8-19-2009. It was his 37th birthday that day and
the story was a good story and it was on the front page.
MichaelYou continue to impress me! It gives
me a lot of pleasure (and ego improvement) to tell people I know you!
What a terrific mission you have, and still the
best website I've ever seen with this type of information. Hope you are
well and happy.
I don't know why, but this search and rescue stuff
has been on my mind, and heart, ever since we met you over the 4th. I
can't get this out of my mind
.people are missing up there in the
North woods, and there might be clues near our property as to what happened
I would just like to say a BIG,
THANK YOU to Mike Neiger of MiBSAR, and to ALL HANDLERS and their K-9
Friends. I really don't know where or what we would do as Friends or Family
of Derrick Ray Henagan without you all!
Mike and John Pepin [senior reporter],
thank you for the article in the Sunday Mining Journal newspaper on my
son's case and him being missing. And thank you to the K-9 One search
team and Tucker for what you did the 4th of July.
Thank You Michael for everything
you have done and for the pep talk we just had. You are a wise man and
I do what you tell me and yes we will work through the bumps in the road
and find derrick.
[I] read up on your searches
for those 3 missing people. I am intrigued, a little scared but also hopeful
that someday, SOMEONE will find real clues/evidence as to what happened
to those 3. My heart goes out to their families
.you cant have
closure until you know!
My hat's off to you and the gang, Mike. Thank you.
I want to thank everyone for what they were doing
this weekend for my son Derrick's case.
Hello Mike, I am so glad to see that your are posting
what you have been doing, and what you will be doing and who will be coming
in to help you look for Derrick....
Teresa Clewley and Family: I want to thank you for
your message in regards to my son.
Mike, Thanks for your continued work. I know that
my family and I really appreciate the effort you have made and continue
to make. Please extend my thanks to Burt [Crawford] also.
Thanks for being out there and trying new methods
to locate any evidence. Please extend our appreciation to Burt Crawford
and the others involved over Sunday and Monday.
I would like to applaud your enormous effort to locate
Mr. Clewley. I hope I never get in that situation but if I would, the
Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue is the outfit to call....
Just a note to let everyone know how much I appreciate
the sacrifices, effort and skills in helping us find Joe. I never knew
there were such kind and thoughtful people who would go thru what you
folks have gone.
I would like to thank Jody and
Mike Rogers for everything that they have done for Derrick and his family,
the Hhank you that they wrote about my son Scott Stanfill, and how they
said how lucky they were to have a friend like him.
Dear Mike, I would like to say
"THANK YOU SO MUCH!" for everything that you have done and that
you continue to do for Derrick and for all of us that have been working
so hard to find him and bring him HOME!! I don't know if you really understand
how much your time that you give to Derrick's case and to us also means
Mike and myself would also like
to say THANK YOU to Scotty Stanfill, a GOOD FRIEND of Derrick's and of
ours, from Hartford that took time out of his life and also spent Mother's
Day away from his Mother for a reason of going with two good friend's
to find a good friend, Derrick Henagan Mike and myself would like Scotty
to know how much that meant to us, there are not many friend's out there
now day's that you can trust your life in their hands, well Mike, Jody,
Betty are lucky enough to say WE HAVE ONE OF THE BEST FRIEND'S OF OUR
LIVES IN SCOTTY STANFILL, as a friend of Derrick's we didn't even have
to ask Scotty he called and asked what he could do to help us find Derrick,
WHAT A FRIEND,THANK YOU SCOTTY!!!!
Reading these messages posted by Derricks family
is heartwarming as they are so grateful for MiBSAR coming into their lives
and searching for the loved one that remains missing.
Michael, Betty, Jody, & everyone helping out in
this case, I thank you so much.
I would like to thank all the members of the search
teams that helped in the search for my son in Newberry on the weekend
of Mother's Day--especially the mom's for spending that day up there doing
this for the Henagan family.
Mike, I would like to thank you and all the search
teams that were in Newberry over this past Mother's Day weekend.
Michael, thank you for your help.
Your SAR web site is outstanding! Very well done with
excellent information. I hope to meet some of your members in a few weeks.
I'll be in your neck of the woods helping with a tracking class, and am
anxious to meet such an obviously professional bunch of volunteers.
Michael, Thank you so very much!! You don't know how
much this means to me and Derrick's mother....ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU SO
MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND THOUGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again, we just can't thank you enough for all of your
time and efforts! We know you are spending many, many hours for us.
Mike [Neiger] and Chris [Ozminski], you are definitely
our dark cloud's sliver lining!! We truly couldn't have gotten through
these last months without you. Thank you so much for everything. Especially
Thank you [Michael Neiger] so much for all of your
time and efforts dedicated to the search for our loved one, Joseph Clewley.
Your unwavering support, expertise, and coordination has been a vital
catalyst to any progress that has been made over these months and we will
be forever grateful.
You guys are amazing.....nothing stops you. Thank you!!
Thank you again for the time Chris [Ozminski] and
you [Michael Neiger] have dedicated to finding my dad and helping my family....I
know that my family and I look at you guys as more than dedicated searchers....[you're]
I would definitely use them [MiBSAR] as [K-9] FS [field
support] again. They are awesome.
I NEVER trust anyone when it comes to navigation,
observation, and after just a few minutes, I totally let you [Michael
Neiger] handle it and trusted that you were getting me where I had to
go, and we[re] keeping it safe. You were the best I've worked with....
Thanks again Michael. It's a great comfort to know
you are planning to return to "Joe's Country" this winter.
Take care and again, thank you for everything; your
efforts and time given to find my Dad.
You're [Michael Neiger] the first [K-9] field support
person to be able to keep up me!
Special thanks must go out to Mike Neiger and Chris
Ozminski. They have dedicated most of their summer searching diligently
in the search area. A personal thanks to them is needed as their searching
came up with some very pertinent/hard-to-find evidence that has lead this
investigation in a certain direction.
I have been struggling for several days now on how
to appropriately thank all who were involved in the October 11, 12 search,
and those who continue to comb the Tahquamenon State Forest in hopes of
finding the elusive Joseph R. Clewley.
Thank you Mike for everything, as you are a big part
of the coordination and communication to all of the people who have joined
us in the search and those who continue to offer words of hope and strength
Thanks for your continued efforts to help find Joe.
I hope you or someone is able to locate Joe to give closure to the lost
Special thanks to Dave Holcomb and Kari Dunn of Michigan
Search and Rescue (MiSAR) for fielding 6 K-9 teams during SAR Op 12.
Your team's time, expertise, and professionalism were greatly appreciated
by the Clewley family, Chris Ozminski, and myself. We look forward to
working with you on future SAR Ops, especially on November 1-2.
It was very good working with the MiSAR people (and
dogs). They're quite dedicated and kind hearted with valuable skills.
I look forward to working with them again.
I would like to add my continued thanks to Mike and
Chris for the undying efforts that you have displayed. Thank you for the
website and the searches, it has been a comfort when we aren't able to
be there. I hope that we are able to locate my father soon to put this
tragedy to rest. I also would like to thank everyone who has responded
to the thread, I don't feel so alone with your responses.
Thank you for [your] continued diligence in the quest
to find my Dad. It makes it easier to continue to push through to the
next available time for searching when I know that you guys are out there
covering the most likely places that he could be. My family can not begin
to thank you enough, we are blessed to have such good people as you &
Chris helping to locate him.
Please thank Chris [Ozminski] from all of us for giving
his time this past weekend. I am looking forward to reading his journal.
I pray something turns up soon. Thanks, Land NavMan,
for all you and your associates are doing. It's certainly a beautiful
Thanks for the update and all the hard work you guys
Hey Mike...I just wanted to say thank you for the
clue. It was getting very frustrating to search without any sign of my
dad. After approximately fifty days of searching, you somewhat broke the
case with your discovery....
Special thanks to you and the Bush Rats for your diligent
efforts to find Mr. Clewley. Your web site has helped many of us keep
up on how the search is going. Thank you for the work you have put into
the site. On a personal note, Teresa Clewley is a old friend from high
school. There are several of us that graduated with Teresa that would
like to touch base with her and send our support....Our thoughts are with
the Clewley family.
Thank you again for all your efforts. I don't know
what good deed gave us the blessing of having you in our lives at this
particular moment in time; but I'm forever grateful that we have had your
unwavering support, expertise and commitment towards Dad's search. I have
been told by my brother Russ that during your search this weekend that
you were able to [locate an item of clothing]....
Thank you for providing this website, Joe is my uncle
and I check this site often for updates and information. Aunt Lorraine,
I continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Keep praying
Thanks Mike & fellow Bushrats for your unwavering
support and search operations. Its of great comfort to know you're
I pray that Joe's family has peace. Hopefully this
tragic event comes to an end soon."And he enjoyed living the simple
life when staying at his circa-1920's Chippewa Hunting Post, hauling water
from a local spring and cooking on a wood stove. No electricity, no generators,
no solar panels, no well, just muscle-based subsistence living."
In my dreams I own a cabin such as this.
I really hope there is some resolution soon....I feel
very bad for the family, the not knowing must be intolerable. Great to
see you again and work with you on a story.
I just wanted to echo thanks for all you are doing.
I frequently check this wonderful site and really enjoy your photography
and writing! Good luck to you and God bless you for what you are doing.
I admire and respect the effort you guys have made
in helping with this search, He sounds like a great man. Very unfortunate.
At least, he is probably where he enjoyed life the most. Thanks for the
updates and your total effort!!
Thank you and Chris so much for your continued effort.
We appreciate all that you guys have done in an attempt to help us find
our dad. Also, thanks for the kind gift of pasties (A true taste of the
great north country). As you know there is no power or oven at the camp.
We wrapped them in foil and cooked them over a camp fire. They came out
great and were extremely good.
I'll...put a link from the NCT website to [Joe Clewleys
missing-person] page. Please keep us in the loop as to progress. I've
had Joe and his family in my prayers.
We live at Higgins Lake and have known the Clewley
family for many a year and are so glad we came across your site so that
we can keep up with what is going on. When you see them will you please
let them know that Al & Kay Weeks are keeping them in our prayers
Thank you Mike for continuing to search for my Dad,
it gave us some comfort to know that even though we had to return home...that
you were going to be there searching for him. All our friends and family
continue to read your forum and the web page for an update on the latest
Kudos to you and all the others who have kept up the
effort to find Joe. Let's hope Chip leads you to him somehow. Whether
a rescue or recovery the family will be grateful for all your efforts.
Thanks for all your efforts to find this man. This
situation is every hiker's worst nightmare....The whole situation is a
good reminder that the NCT is not all as tame as many people believe.
I would like to thank everyone who has helped in the
Search Rescue Op for my father. I have gained a respect for the Backpacking
group from Mike Neiger and Oz [Chris Ozminski]. These are truly dedicated
individuals. My father would be beaming from the pictures Mike has posted.
A quote from my father "You cannot appreciate or truly discuss the
area if you do not leave the quad or trail". He believed that trails
just got you to the area you wanted to start to investigate.
Just wanted to check in and let you know that Joe,
his family and the SAR crews are in my thoughts and prayer.
Firstly, thank you for the wonderful website updates.
Joe and Lorraine are friends of ours and we appreciate ALL that you are
doing to help....Our thoughts and prayers are with all those helping in
the search, you are all so wonderful, and our prayers as well for Lorraine
and the kids that they soon may have answers and find Joe....Won't keep
you any longer, you are a busy man, keep up the great work for a great
Good luck with your efforts and I hope they find Mr.
Clewly alive and well. If anyone could find him, I'd say you and [Michigan
Backcountry Search and Rescue] would be the best bet. Who else would stay
out in the bush for multiple nights and continue on with the search.
Thanks again for all the help Chris and You provided
over the weekend. Your attention to detail is greatly appreciated. I know
those beaver floodings are a mess and it was wonderful that you could
cover them for us....With my dad still missing we greatly appreciate any
help we can get from trained individuals such as yourself....My family
and I wanted to extend a great thanks to you and those individuals wishing
to follow your lead into the bush.
I am overwhelmed and without words to describe my
family's gratitude for all that you have done and continue to do. Your
search efforts, communications and website have brought my Dad's spirit
to life for others and keeps our hope alive that he will be found.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you
for the web site, but most of all, the untiring efforts put forth by you
& many others to find Joe Clewley. It is just so hard to believe.
Joe was a gentle man & loved nature. It is ironic that the very scenery
that he loves would engulf his life. I have much faith that Joe will be
found & God in his mercy will answer prayers for the family, &
all those who searched so valiantly for him. And of course there are prayers
for you & all others who have searched & continued searching to
I am writing this on behalf of the Clewley family,
who are unable to post at this time. They would like to thank everyone
involved in the search for all their time and effort. Your caring and
concern means more to us than you will ever know. God gives everyone different
gifts and the mercy and compassion gifts are very evident through your
I've been following this thread since the start. I
really hope that this is a search and rescue and not a recovery mission.
Best of luck to all searchers. Michael, excellent
job coordinating the effort.
The web page you have established for Joe Clewely
is awesome! Thank you for keeping the information about Joe's disappearance
updated. I read your forum daily to see what progress, if any, has been
made in this case...My heart felt prayers go out to the family but I also
wanted to thank you for all the time you have put into this. Also, I am
sure the family appreciates your efforts to continue the search for Joe.
Thank You so much for the help Mike. My family and
I are very appreciative of your assistance.
Best to you and your team! I am a member of Michigan
Search and Rescue (K9 Team out of Lower Peninsula) that conducted a search.
We all left very heavy hearted that the find was not made and the family
could not be given peace. The Clewley family are truly wonderful people!
Thanks for your efforts to assist in finding either
Joe or what happened.
We'd all like to thank you for what you are doing.
I wish I was closer so I could help. I live in upstate New York...
