This last weekend I went back up to the UP for another off trail backpacking trip [4-day McCormick Wilderness Tract Backpacking Trip organized by Team MibSAR]! It was absolutely amazing and beautiful. I went with the same trip leaders as last time, Michael Neiger and Todd Theoret who are absolutely amazing and incredibly knowledgeable when it comes their craft. I find it incredible how they enjoy spending their time, teaching other people their skills and passing along the knowledge they've learned over the years without so much as a charging a penny! Truely selfless and I am honored to have met them and be able to continue going on trips with them! I had a blast connecting with everyone there, I truely feel like I could've made some friends for life! It's amazing how comfortable you can feel around people who have similar mindsets. On this trip we slept next to a lake or waterfall every night, I saw 15 shooting stars, the milky way, mama bear and her cubs, a flying squirrel, foxfire (wood that glows in the dark) and some wild turkeys. Along with so many incredible views of waterfalls, different kinds of fungus, wild mushrooms, and the night sky. I got to do more navigation work and also learn and understand how to read a topo map better. I was taught how to split wood in a survival situation and explained how to cross raging rivers and make make-shift snow shoes. I have a few more trips with them planned before my big long hike. I cant wait to continue learning from them while also learning more about myself along the way! Here's to many more adventures.

Spent 4th of July weekend (4 days, 3 nights) exploring Pictured Rocks in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with 5 like minded strangers. Honestly the whole trip blew me away!!! A couple weeks ago I had seen a free backpacking trip listed in a "Wisconsin Backpackers" and I decided to get out of my comfort zone and go hiking with some strangers. This trip turned out to be absolutely amazing!! Not only were we backpacking but we also explored caves off the beaten path, explored numerous different waterfalls, walked ontop of cliffs over looking Lake Superior, swam in Lake Superior from beautiful beaches and rock cliffs, walked through swamps and through dense forest and slept in the woods each night where we had to scout a place for us to set up camp. I met 5 wonderful people which I learned something from every single one of them. I was especially pleased with meeting the trip leader, Michael Neiger , and his co trip leader, Todd Theoret, as they were the most knowledgeable and nicest people I've met in the outdoors. Their back country skill is something I hope to learn even half of one day and I'm incredibly happy to have met them. I hope to go on more trips with them learning all types of tips, tricks, and how to prepare and be safe. They taught me how to use a compass and coordinates, taught me how to bushwack, explained how formations in the land occur, the history behind the trails and land, how to appropriately hammock camp with a tarp, different ways to pitch a tarp, some edible plants and so much more!...It was breathtaking and I honestly felt like I was in a foreign country with its beauty! They are believed to be both Jeff and Alex. They are being flown our for autopsy to identify and check for any signs of foul play. I would like to thank you all for your support. Given the remoteness of the [Joseph Clewley search] location, we were very blessed with support from the county and state. Mike and the task force working on Derrick's case: Its now a new year and we are still on this path to find my son. We have had a long, hard road and a lot of bumps in it, but we are getting some results and an arrest has been made.Hopefully, with this, it will shed light on Derrick's demise. I thought we would have more answers by now but we have to take one day at a time, we will get this done.Winter puts us on hold for certain things that we can do, so in the spring we can focus on more searches and develop more leads. I hope with the arrest that was made it is not for the wrong person. I would not like it if someone took the fall or blame for the ones involved with Derrick's murder, or what ever it might be.

I know we should always have hope when one is missing but we know its been too long and things just don't look good for this family in finding derrick alive. But I hope for justice to be done now and my son's remains can be found so he can be at peace. I will still pray for the missing as I do for my son, and for all the families and friends of a missing loved one. I know we sure are blessed to have people like you in our corner fighting for our missing. You stay safe while on your training operations and out in the bush searching for the missing. God be with you every step of the way.

I would like to thank Jody and Mike Rogers for everything that they have done for Derrick and his family, the Hhank you that they wrote about my son Scott Stanfill, and how they said how lucky they were to have a friend like him. Well, let me tell you that Mike and Derrick are like my own sons. Mike and Derrick and Scotty were quite the group. Mike was always there for Scotty and Derrick no matter what the situation, and Derrick would come in my house and say Hey Mom (which he called me quite often) where is the spaghetti and meatballs, that was his favorite.
Derrick, the people that love you and miss you will never give up.

Jody, there are no words to express all that you have done; you truly are an angel. Betty, my friend, you are always in my thoughts and prayers and if you need anything don't hesitate to call me. As far as friendship goes, Scotty could not ask for any better friends than Mike and Derrick and Jody. Thanks for always thinking of Scotty. I also would like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU TO JODY NEWMAN (Quick Bail Bond's) and to her best friend and daughter that spent their Mother's Day with us in the U.P looking for Derrick.Here again is a case where people that are blessing's from God, Jody and her crew started in August,2008 doing a JOB, well it wasn't to long after talking with Betty and myself Jody realized Derrick was Missing then she put her hand's out to a mother and a friend of Derrick's to help them search for Derrick and for what happened to him, and sometimes to hug us or to be the shoulder to cry and the ears to listen to our yelling, crying, talks that we had with her, this is something that she didn't have to do by any means but she really seen we needed help and she was there, that say a lot when Derrick has HUNDRED'S of life long friend's and Jody a person that just knew a name in the beginning and she has done so much that I can't even tell all of it, and the thing about Jody she will continue to do all she can!

So to You Jody Newman THANK YOU for being there for Betty and myself, I hope someday you might know how much you mean to us!! Jody you will always have a friend in Jody Rogers and Betty Henagan.I know that with all the dear friend that we have had from long ago, and those even dearer friend's that we have made through this search for Derrick we have a blessed life and that, WE TOGETHER AS A TEAM ARE GOING TO FIND OUR DEAR FRIEND DERRICK RAY HENAGAN AND BRING HIM HOME TO HIS CHILDRENAND FAMILY AND FRIEND'S!! I have been struggling for several days now on how to appropriately thank all who were involved in the October 11, 12 search, and those who continue to comb the Tahquamenon State Forest in hopes of finding the elusive Joseph R. Clewley. Good luck with your efforts and I hope they find Mr. Clewly alive and well. If anyone could find him, I'd say you and [Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue] would be the best bet. Who else would stay out in the bush for multiple nights and continue on with the search.

Thanks again for all the help Chris and You provided over the weekend. Your attention to detail is greatly appreciated. I know those beaver floodings are a mess and it was wonderful that you could cover them for us....With my dad still missing we greatly appreciate any help we can get from trained individuals such as yourself....My family and I wanted to extend a great thanks to you and those individuals wishing to follow your lead into the bush.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the web site, but most of all, the untiring efforts put forth by you & many others to find Joe Clewley. It is just so hard to believe. Joe was a gentle man & loved nature. It is ironic that the very scenery that he loves would engulf his life. The web page you have established for Joe Clewely is awesome! Thank you for keeping the information about Joe's disappearance updated. I read your forum daily to see what progress, if any, has been made in this case...My heart felt prayers go out to the family but I also wanted to thank you for all the time you have put into this. Also, I am sure the family appreciates your efforts to continue the search for Joe. Again, thank you for helping the Clewley family. I hope some clues come along that lead you in the right direction. Also, thank you for keeping everyone so informed with the information in the website for Joe and the forum blogs!! Your information is much appreciated!!!!

Best to you and your team! I am a member of Michigan Search and Rescue (K9 Team out of Lower Peninsula) that conducted a search. We all left very heavy hearted that the find was not made and the family could not be given peace. The Clewley family are truly wonderful people! God Speed to you all!
